Who am I and what makes me think I can help? Well I can tell you that just because I am an African - American mom with a daughter doesn't mean I know how to take care of thick kinky hair. I know my mother didn't know what to do with my hair. She kept my hair cut short until I was about 4 or 5 years old. Then she started putting my hair into pigtails.
I learned how to take care of my hair and my daughter's hair by practice and seeking help from family and friends. In over 25 years I have honed my skills and learned how best to take care of our hair. I have been braiding and styling my daughter's hair since she was an infant. So I guess you can say I have a lifetime of experience working with thick kinky hair.
I have a multi-racial family so don't worry about the bad attitude and judgement you could get from some African - American hair salons just because you may not know what to do. It is not important that you don't know what to do, what is important is that you are seeking help.
Also just because I am African - American doesn't mean I don't braid other types of hair. I ask that if you want your hair braided that the straighter your hair the longer the better. At least 4 inches.
